How we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our website or place an order.

Who we are

lekkerklei is a sole proprietorship trading as lekkerklei (not yet registered as a separate legal entity).

We are the responsible party for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

What information we collect

We only collect information that helps us respond to you, process orders, and improve our service:

  • Contact details — name, email address, phone number.
  • Order information — products ordered, quantities, delivery area or address, and any notes you provide at checkout or on WhatsApp.
  • Messages — the content of contact form submissions, emails, and WhatsApp conversations related to orders or enquiries.
  • Payment information — we do not store card or banking details on our website. Payments are processed by Bob Pay; we may receive confirmation that payment was made.
  • Technical data — basic information such as browser type and IP address may be logged by our hosting provider (Cloudflare) for security and performance.
  • Cart data — items in your cart are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) on your device until you clear it or complete an order.

How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • Process and fulfil orders
  • Confirm delivery details and arrange courier or collection
  • Send payment links and order updates
  • Respond to enquiries and support requests
  • Improve our website and customer experience
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not send marketing emails unless you have asked us to, and you can opt out at any time.

Who we share information with

We may share your information only when needed to run our business:

  • WhatsApp (Meta) — when you order or message us via WhatsApp.
  • Bob Pay — to process payments securely.
  • Formspree — to deliver messages sent through our contact form.
  • Courier partners (via Bob Go) — name, phone number, and delivery address when we ship your order.
  • Cloudflare — website hosting, security, and Zaraz (which loads Google Analytics 4 and the Meta pixel for us).
  • Google — Analytics 4 (via Zaraz) for shop analytics; Google Fonts may also receive basic technical data from your browser.
  • Meta — the Meta pixel (via Zaraz) for ads measurement.

These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We only share what is necessary for each purpose.

How long we keep your information

We keep order and contact records for as long as needed to fulfil orders, handle returns or queries, and meet tax or legal record-keeping requirements — typically up to 5 years for financial records. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry.

How we protect your information

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including secure hosting, HTTPS on our website, and limiting access to order data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information, where we are not required to keep it by law
  • Object to processing in certain circumstances
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa)

Tracking and analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 and the Meta (Facebook) pixel through Cloudflare Zaraz to understand how the shop is used and to measure ads. That helps us see which colours people browse, what gets added to the cart, and when an order is sent — so we can keep the shop useful and welcoming for customers.

What we collect this way includes your IP address, device and browser details, pages viewed, products viewed or added to cart, and order details. Personal information collected this way is handled in line with POPIA, and we only use it for analytics and ads measurement related to lekkerklei. Google, Meta and Cloudflare may process this data outside South Africa.

You can opt out in ways that work for you:

Cookies and local storage

Analytics and ads tools loaded via Cloudflare Zaraz may set cookies or similar storage, depending on your browser settings. Separately, we use localStorage on your device to remember your shopping cart between visits (and to avoid sending the same order-complete analytics event twice). You can clear this at any time through your browser settings.

Children's privacy

Our products are made for children, but our website is intended for parents and guardians placing orders. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of our website after changes means you accept the updated policy.
